indeed what you are saying will allow for MUCH better flow but it will also reduce your bottom end torque since there will be minimal back pressure which is required for NA cars to produce torque down low.
If you want to decrease noise and retain flow why not just have a silencer box made to replace your current ones which has more surface area to "catch" the noise of the engine. for example, like in your diagram you fit a larger pipe and silencers you WILL get better flow but you'll still get the "**** can" sound since there will not be enough silencer to trap unwanted sounds. Ideally you'll need more silencing in the form of more surface area inside the silencer, and the best way to do that without sacrificing flow is to either fit longer silencers OR more of them..
