BAIC BJ40 Plus Overview
BAIC represents the Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co., Ltd., a Chinese state-owned conglomerate of multiple vehicle makers. It is venturing into Pakistan through a partnership with Sazgar Motors and bringing its off-road SUV, the BJ40 Plus. Designed specifically for tough terrains, the BJ40 Plus was first introduced in 2013 with a 2.4-liter, four-cylinder gasoline engine and came in four models - BJ40 S (Super), BJ40 P (Professional), BJ40 C (City), and BJ40 SE (Special Edition). In 2019, the BJ40 underwent a makeover and was renamed BJ40 Plus, featuring a revised exterior and interior and a 2.0-liter turbo engine.
BJ40 Plus Exterior
The exterior of the BJ40 Plus 2024 is rugged and imposing, with its anti-roll frame providing a 210mm ground clearance for safe off-roading. Despite its controversial design, which resembles the Jeep Wrangler, the BJ40 Plus makes a bold statement with its piano-painted vertical grille and sleek LED lighting.
Its front and rear fog lamps, combined with monochromatic and polychromatic ambient interior lighting, ensure a bright and comfortable ride. The BJ40 Plus 2024 also has an LED high-mounted stop lamp and rear combined tail lamp, along with a front and rear red towbar.
Silver plating on the front and rear bumpers, skid pads, rear bumper radar bracket, and front/rear bumper lower guard make it well-equipped for any adventure. The vehicle is also fitted with green window glass to protect against strong sunlight and soft wipers front and rear.
BAIC BJ40 Plus 2024 Interior
The BJ40 Plus boasts an interior that matches its bold exterior with sharp and clean design elements. The leather-wrapped steering wheel, complete with steering control switches, can be easily adjusted for the driver's comfort. A 12.3" full-size LCD instrument panel sits behind the wheel, displaying key data such as altitude, pressure, and direction. The manual anti-glare interior rearview mirror adds to the ease of driving.
A 220V power outlet is available for device charging and all seats, including the driver's with 6-way adjustment and passenger seats with 4-way adjustment, are adjustable with adjustable headrests for added comfort. The driver's seat also features electric lumbar adjustment, making the BJ40 Plus suitable for long and challenging trips. The 5-seater vehicle also features a 60/40 flip for the back seats to increase storage space.
A 10.25" HD central control panel sits in the front of the BJ40 Plus, providing access to all multimedia functions, phone connectivity, and a 6-speaker hi-fi stereo system for a fun environment. Two USB ports and an auxiliary port are available for device connections, along with onboard Wi-Fi.
The BJ40 Plus also features automatic air conditioning controlled by daylight sensors and an automotive-grade CN95 air filtration system for improved air quality inside the vehicle.
BAIC BJ40 Plus 2024 Engine
The BJ40 Plus 2024 is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine that generates 218 horsepower at 5,500 RPM and 320 Nm of torque at 4,500 RPM, paired with an automatic transmission. It offers the choice of either a five-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic transmission, both of which support four different driving modes: ECO, Comfort, Sport, and Snowfield. Additionally, the BJ40 Plus comes with a state-of-the-art electrical part-time 4WD system.

The BJ40 Plus boasts a fuel efficiency of 100 km per 14.9 liters in city conditions and 8.0 liters on highways. Its fuel tank can hold up to 80 liters, and it can reach a top speed of 160 km/h.

BJ40 Plus Competitors
The BAIC BJ40 Plus draws similarities with the Wrangler Jeep and faces competition with it in the international market. In Pakistan, however, the BJ40 Plus has a unique position as it has no direct competition. Vehicles such as the Haval H6, Toyota Fortuner, and Toyota Hilux Revo have some features that are similar to the BJ40 Plus.
The Haval H6 is priced similarly to the BJ40 Plus 2024 and has a similar fuel consumption, making it better suited for city driving. The Toyota Fortuner, on the other hand, is better suited for off-road adventures but falls short in comparison to the BJ40 Plus in terms of power. The Toyota Hilux is a robust pickup truck with additional cargo space and a rugged exterior, making it suitable for off-road driving. The major difference is that it's not an SUV, like the BJ40 Plus.
