Kia Classic Overview

Kia, the South Korean car brand, has had a long history with the Pakistani auto industry, with three attempts to establish itself in the local market. During its second attempt, Kia brought the Kia Classic to Pakistan, a locally produced 1300cc sedan also known as the Kia Pride and Kia NGV. Although the car is no longer in production, there are still used versions of this subcompact sedan available in Pakistan, with the most popular being the Kia Classic 2005 model.

History of Kia Classic in Pakistan

The history of Kia Classic is intertwined with the history of Kia in Pakistan. Kia first made its debut in the Pakistani automobile market in the 90s with Naya Daur Motors, which proved to be unsuccessful. Kia made a comeback in collaboration with Dewan Farooque Motor Company Limited (DFML) in 1998, introducing the Kia Classic, the first car to roll off the DFML assembly plant in the year 2000. The Kia Classic was the sedan version of the popular Kia hatchback, Kia Pride, and was powered by a 1.3-liter Mazda B3 engine with a 5-speed manual transmission.

Exterior

The design language of Kia Classic is based on Mazda design studios, which was continuously upgraded through several facelifts. The car comes with standard exterior features such as body-colored bumpers with impact absorption, body-side protection strips, front and rear mud flaps, retractable aerial, 2-speed flick wipers, laminated windscreen, tailgate wiper, internally adjusted headlights with halogen lamps, high-level rear brake light, and rear fog light.

Interior

Despite being a subcompact car, the driver cabin of the Kia Classic is spacious and comfortable. It comes with features like a glove box, cigar lighter, parcel shelf, tool kit, courtesy lights, landscape lamp, front/rear speakers, reclining front seats, split folding rear seats, and childproof rear door locks.

Engine

As the Kia Classic is based on Mazda technology, its engine also comes from the Japanese automaker. The Pakistani version of the Kia Classic is equipped with a 1.3-liter Mazda BJ four-cylinder engine that produces up to 88 horsepower and 117 Nm torque, mated with a 5-speed manual transmission. The engine was available in both petrol and CNG options.

Performance

The Kia Classic was a decent and practical subcompact sedan with a reasonable price tag in the beginning. However, its success didn't last, and by 2005, its sales had dropped to 400 units per year.

Mileage

The Kia Classic's fuel efficiency is commendable, with a mileage of around 12-15 km/l in the city and 16-18 km/l on the highways.

Competitors

During its production years, the Kia Classic competed with popular subcompact sedans like Honda City, Suzuki Margalla, and Toyota Corolla XLi, and GLi.
