The first and most important thing required to buy a car is money. You should decide the car model and car type accordingly. You should also check other related things like insurance, spare parts and service stations along with the car’s type, make and production year.
You can make your car legal to run on the road in Pakistan by paying ‘on road price’. You have to pay capital price, insurance and registration charge in this price. Provinces make their own policies regarding vehicle registration but usually registration charges are made by considering car’s engine displacement and its token class. Following are the parts of registration cost:

• Withholding Tax
But if you want to import a car then you can also suffer luxury tax which is imposed by the provinces.
Most of the application documents are downloaded from the website of excise & Taxation and you will get the information of fee structure and other details from the website and also from their office.
If engine of your car is only 850cc then you only have to pay Rs. 10,000 without any withholding tax but this tax by provinces on cars above 3000cc is in six digits.

If you are purchasing car with smaller engine then you can save yourself from things like additional taxes and unnecessary expenses like tokens. Taking insurance while buying a car will give you peace of mind.
Main Documents
The initial major documents you require while buying a car for the first time include:
• Photocopy of your CNIC, o r of the applicant.
• Application to the Excise & Taxation Officer for the new vehicle registration.

Verification Documents
There are three types of purchases and all have different verification documents.
You need documents of sale certificates, sale invoice and other related ones before purchasing locally produced vehicle.

If you want to import vehicles then you will be required documents like bill of lading, bill of entry, old registration book and others.
Auction voucher and interrelated bills and documents are required for auctioned vehicles.
Residential Proof and Details
The next thing you have to provide is documents that prove your o r applicant’s residence. These are following:
• Utility Bills i.e., electricity, phone, gas, water etc.
• CNIC
• Lease Agreement
• Registry
• Allotment letter
• Office card for private employee
• Appointment letter for a Government servant
Step by Step Procedure
Apart from registration process, there are several other aspects also that are important to complete the process of purchasing car.
After completing your documents as mentioned above, you will visit the designated Excise Inspector along with your car, physical inspection and verification documents. In case of correct particulars, the next stages include:
• Inspector will sign the submission after filing his statement on Form “F”.
• You will visit your designated Data Entry Operator DEO who will course the process o r tell you if there are any weaknesses in the documents.
• DEO will sign the computerized Form “F” and you will also sign to verify the process.
• You will give due fee amount to the DEO.
• DEO will release the vehicle registration acceptance after taking the car document file.
• You will pay Number Plate Fee to the DEO.
