Excise Department will Charge Rs. 800 for New Number Plates

The Excise department launched the campaign against the fancy and old registration number plates of the vehicles in Rawalpindi / Islamabad, the interior minister directed the authorities concerned that they should take notice of the complaints about the additional fees, which is being charged for the registered number plates.
The interior minister also took the action of the complaints about the misappropriation in giving the contract of vehicle registration plats to the Excise and Taxation Department of Islamabad Capital Territory. He also asked the reports from the chief and Deputy Commissioners. He issued the statement on Monday giving the orders to the Excise Department to collect Rs.800 when new number plates are issued instead of Rs.1300until the investigation of the embezzlement is completed.
He also ordered the chief commissioner to ensure that there should be transparency in giving the new contract for registration plates through open bid and also follow the rules and regulations. The interior ministry took the step, when it received multiple complaints from the people as E&T Department has overcharged for the new number plates.
There are old and custom registration plates, which are causing some issues with Safe City project as they do not have proper security features, which are required for proper identification and verification. When the government issued orders to take action against the old registered and fancy number plates, police started this campaign in Islamabad ensuring all motorists remove and change their illegal and fancy number plates. The general public and authorities are not informed well about the new number plates, which cause lot of confusion.
People told media that the authorities do not have idea about the difference between the computerized number plate and non computerized number plates. When the campaign is started, the traffic police was ordered to look for the unregistered vehicle.
