Government Plans To Introduce Further Tax Exemptions For EVs

The Government of Pakistan seems to be more conscious regarding electric vehicles EVs in Pakistan. In a recent report it is claimed that Government is planning to give more relaxation on taxes on the electric vehicles import. Govt is reportedly going to decide to give more tax exemption to the EV manufacturer and importers. This decision will surprisingly help the costumers to buy EVs at impressive low price as compared to petrol vehicles.

Remember that government has already given tax exemption on EVs. Additionally, govt also planning to install EV charging stations on highways as well. According to sources, the Federal Board of Revenue FBR had suggested these tax exemptions for electric vehicles.

The government is expected to announce a tax amendment ordinance next week. The ordinance proposes exemptions of:

 3% additional sales tax on the import of EVs
 1% additional customs duty n the import of spare parts of EVs
 1% tax to the locally manufactured EVs

According to the new ordinance, the government will impose additional taxes on petrol vehicle

 Rs. 50,000 on cars up to 1,000cc
 Rs. 1 lac on cars ranging between 1,000 and 2,000cc
 Rs. 2 lacs on cars over 2,000cc
