Hybrid Honda Civic 2022: Specs and Price

The Honda has introduced the hybrid variant of Honda Civic hatchback in Europe recently. The sedan and hatchback launched on the same platform but both vehicles are different each other in terms of body design and styling. So here we are going to discuss the exterior, interior, engine power and salient safety features of Honda Civic Hybrid hatchback.

Exterior

The exterior of the hybrid hatchback Civic 2022 is same as of the body design and style of sedan. The Honda Civic becomes a hatchback with all new taillights giving a completely new look on the rear side.

Hybrid Engine for Europe

Like sedan, the Honda Civic 2022 hatchback comes in two engine options, a 2L NA 158HP and a familiar 1.5L Turbo with 180HP in North America. Both engines are mated with CVT. As the Honda Civic sedan 11th Generation has no manual engines, but on the other hand the hatchback is installed with a 6-speed manual transmission, besides the CVT. For now, the company has offered the Honda Civic 2022 hatchback for sale in Australia and Japan only with a 1.5T engine producing 176HP and 240NM and CVT as standard.

In the auto market of Europe, the new Honda Civic hatchback will comes as Hybrid Electric Vehicle HEV which will be installed with all new naturally aspirated direct-injection Atkinson cycle engine with two electric motors.

Honda reveals that the new engine in the hatchback is featured with a new technology for internal combustion engine with multiple new elements, resulting in thermal efficiency of 41%. According to Honda, this is highest figure ever for any production of passenger car in the world.

Engine & Battery Power

The new Honda Civic Hybrid hatchback is installed with an electric motor with Front Wheel Drive FWD options. The electric motor in the Civic hatchback produces 181hp and 315Nm of torque. The power figures for the engine are unknown yet and also Honda has not revealed the details officially regarding the total power.

Although a similar system in Accord Hybrid makes combined 212HP . The 2L engine in Accord itself makes around 143HP and 173NM of torque. For now, we have to wait for all technical specs details for Civic Hybrid Hatchback.

Hybrid Civic variant has more power & torque than the 1.5T regular non-hybrid versions and even more as compared to the hardcore Civic Si as offered in North America, if it follows the footsteps of Accord Hybrid. When it comes to the transmission of Euro Civic, the company has offered hybrid variant of Civic with a direct drive with no conventional transmission. The car has a single fixed-gear that powers the front wheels.

The Hybrid Honda Civic has smaller & denser 72-cell lithium battery placed under the rear seats which has new design as well. According to Honda, the car is efficient and has powerful delivery with its all new power control unit for improved and instant torque

Hybrid Honda Civic Hatchback Drive Modes

The Civic 2022 hybrid has three driving modes; EV, Hybrid, and Engine drive mode. These modes changed automatically by the engine control module depending upon driving conditions without any input from the driver. The engine is sleeping, the battery powers the motor, it has the regenerative feature, so when brakes are applied, the motor works as a generator and charges the battery in the EV mode.

The engine just forwards the power to electric motor only it does not start the car instantly and does not moves it directly in Hybrid mode. The engine throws the power to generator for producing the power and then runs the electric motors to move the car. The battery sends power to EV motor for maximum acceleration/ performance in the hybrid mode. Then the Engine Drive mode, the actual engine comes into play. A lockup clutch engages the engine with an axle to drive wheels.

The Honda Civic HEV has four driver-selectable modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and an individual mode. This allows separate control of engine & transmission.

Fuel Efficiency

The Civic hatchback hybrid fuel efficiency is yet unknown, but it is expected to be under 5L/100 kilometers.

Interior of Hybrid Honda Civic Hatchback

The interior of Honda Civic hatchback is similar to the interior of sedan. It has a 10.25-inch digital cluster and a 9-inch touch screen Honda proprietary head-unit. Furthermore, A 12-inch speaker Bose audio system with subwoofer is also available along with the wireless charger, wireless apple car play, and android auto.

Safety

Honda sensing are offered standard with 11 airbags in the car. It is a first Civic hatchback that comes with the front seat center airbag to protect and prevent collision between the front driver and passenger in side impacts.

Hybrid Honda Civic Hatchback Price

The Honda has also not revealed the Hybrid Honda Civic Hatchback Price yet. The company also plans to provide Honda Civic Hatchback for sale in Japan later this year. As for the Hybrid Hatchback Honda Civic 2022 in Pakistan, there are now words to say yet. We have to wait to see Honda Civic HEV in Pakistan.
