Motorcycle Tracking Devices Compulsory in Sindh

Sindh government has made the decision for the owners of the motorcycles to install tracking device in their bikes.


The provincial government will amend the motor vehicle ordinance for this purpose. According to the proposed amendment, it will be necessary for the motorcyclists to install the tracking devices in their motorcycles.

The provincial transport minister submitted the summary to the Sindh Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah. Motorcycle companies will be bound to install trackers in the motorcycles and Sindh Excise and Taxation department will register such motorcycles, who have installed the tracking devices in it.

 First, this proposal was sent in 2017 when the government made the announcement that the tracking devices should be installed on the motorcycles in the province in an attempt to stop the street crimes. Then the Home Minister Sohail Anwar Siyal chaired the meeting, in which manufacturers of motorcycles, tracking companies, excise department, Sindh Police, Rangers and Citizen Police Liaison Committee CPLC attended the meeting.


According to the data, there are about 600,000 new motorcycles, which are purchased during a year in this province. The reports show that the exercise will create the business opportunities of about Rs.6 billion in Karachi where over 2.5 million motorcycles are registered.
