Punjab Police Seizes 260,000 Illegal Number Plates in Lahore

The Excise Department carried out the operation against the illegal number plate holders with the team of Special Monitoring Unit Punjab in Lahore city. During the crackdown against the illegal number plate holders, there are about 260,000 number plates were seized and this operation is being carried out under ‘Transport Sahulat Program’, which is now in the second phase of the operation.

Illegal Plate Makers Also Targeted
The DG of CM’s Transport sahulat program said that the illegal number plates are being caught and the manufacturers of the illegal number plates are also being caught. The Excise department has started the crackdown against the illegal number plates in order to assist the new security cameras, which are installed in different parts of the city and these security cameras help to scan the number plates properly. If the number plates are not registered with Excise and Taxation department, then they cannot be scanned properly and the crackdown was started against such number plates.
The Excise department has also started the operation against such number plates with slogans, designations o r having the affiliation with the organization in private o r public sector and the authorities started the operations, which will be accelerated in the coming days.
First Phase of the Program
In the first phase of the Transport Sahulat Program, there are as many as 279,274 challans have been lodged in 2016 as the spokesperson of Lahore City Traffic Police confirmed that these challans have been carried out against illegal number plates and windows having tinted glasses in their cars.
Chief Traffic Office said that 62,293 ‘Applied For’ vehicles, 371 vehicles having green plates and 158,152 vehicles have been fined in just Lahore city. This was the first phase of the Transport Sahulat Program.
Launched Under PCSA’s Campaign
Punjab Safe Cities Authority launched the new traffic management system with the provision of new security cameras, which were installed in different areas in Lahore. The systems needs the standard number plates to recognized the numbers of the vehicle easily with the help of these security cameras.
The installation of new traffic lights and the separate lane for motorcyclists were also part of this new system. The excise department has also started the campaign to standardized number plates, which would be according to the standards of Excise Department.
Punjab government passed the bill and the persons, who use non standard number plate, they will be imprisoned for 5 years.
