Road Surface

Some of the times, the tires give noise because of the road surface. There may be some potholes and when the tires cross them, they can give such sound. The concrete cannot absorb the noise being created by the tires and such noises may be loud. The use of asphalt can be supple to soak up lot of tire noise.

Type of Tire

There is one of the big point in tire noise is the type of the tire. There are some other factors, which can play role in producing the noises of the tires

How much rubber is touching the road: You need to use more rubber in the tire, as they can contact with the road. You can also look of the narrow tire to reduce the noises of the tires.

Tread pattern: You can find different reasons behind the tire tread pattern and the noise, which they made. Each pattern can generate the specific pitch on the road and the quieter tires are added with multiple tread patterns. They use smaller blocks of tread and they may have little hash marks between the tread to break the air compression.

How deep is tread: When you drive the car and hear the sound from the tires. This sound comes from the air, which is compressed between road and rubber between the tread. When the tread is deep and blocky, it creates loud noise. But you should avoid using the bald or flat tire to reduce the noises coming from the tire. The tread in the tire can help to reduce the speed of the car, when the brakes are applied. You should get new tires between 4/32” and 2/32”, if you want to remain safe on the road.

What kind of rubber the tire is made of:  You should use softer rubber in your tire, which will create less noise but this soft rubber will wear out quickly. The harder rubber will be quieter but this type of tire is made for the bumpier ride.

Type of side walls: flat tires have thick side walls and they can support the vehicle, if the tires are flat. The extra thickness in the tire produces loud noise. The low profile tire can be noisy as it has thin sidewall.

Type of Tire: The heavy duty tires or the tires, which are made for hauling, will create more sound than all-season tires. The snow tires or the studded tires can produce more noise than almost any other tire.

Condition of Tire

The condition of the tire shows how much noise it will make. If you are traveling on the uneven tread, you can hear lot of noise on the road. After the freezing night in the cold city, you can find that tires are noisy because the tires have been resting on one spot all night and it might develop the small flat spot and things should quiet down the warmth of the tire.

Humming or Grinding

The wheel bearings of the vehicle are connected with the wheels of the car to axle and they can reduce the friction so that you can drive the car smoothly. If you hear the humming or grinding noise at the time of taking your turn or change the lanes, it means that your wheel bearings are damaged. When the wheel bearings continuously move over the divots in wheel race, then the humming sound is produced. As this sound travels to other parts of the car, so it will be difficult for you to detect the problem. If you technician detects this sound and problem, he may suggest you to replace both wheel bearings so that you can remain safe and secure.

Preventative Maintenance

You should adopt the preventive maintenances for your tire in order to keep them in good condition. You should follow the recommendation of the manufacturer to keep the tires inflated and get them rotated and aligned as per schedule. You should accelerate and decelerate the car carefully and slowly to reduce the uneven wear, that they make things noisier than ever.

When you feel the problems in tire, you need to contact with the mechanic and bring your car there. The skilled technicians can know what they need to look and you can be cool to drive your car.
