Suzuki Plans To Develop A Flying Car

There are a number of tech companies in Japan engaged in working to develop the flying cars. The Japanese auto giant, Suzuki has collaborated with a leading Japanese tech firm SkyDrive to develop the first Suzuki Flying Car. The flying car by Suzuki will be a first electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) transport.

The Japanese Government has allowed the SkyDrive to manufacture commercial vehicles has issued an approval to the company for this purpose. According to SkyDrive, the Suzuki will assist the company for the development of technology on which the flying car will be developed.

Moreover, the SkyDrive has also received a base type certification from the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT) that indicates that the flying is expected to go in production stage soon.

Due to complexity, the approval process of the eVTOL transport is tedious and long. Instead, the SkyDrive applied for the manufacturing approval certificate for its SD-05 small aircraft, in response to which, the JCAB asked the developer to “allow flexibility in the shape of the airframe and aircraft system.”

SkyDrive in partnership with Suzuki plans to start the production of flying car and intends to perform an experiment of the car soon. According to company, the flying car service will start its operation by 2025 because the certification process may take two years more.
