JMC New Boarding overheating with coolant smell — could the radiator be cracked?
My JMC New Boarding overheats sometimes, and I also notice a sweet coolant smell when I stop the vehicle, but I cannot see any big leaks. Mechanics in Lahore told me the radiator might have micro-cracks due to heat and vibration. Is this a known issue in JMC New Boarding trucks? How can I identify if the radiator is cracked o r if the problem is from the cap, hoses, o r water pump?

Gari Master - on 29 Nov 2025 12:39:16 pmA coolant smell + overheating strongly suggests a radiator crack o r pressure leak, which is a known issue in JMC New Boarding trucks.
Possible causes
Micro-cracks in radiator side tanks
These cracks leak tiny amounts that evaporate instantly, causing smell but no puddle.
Loose radiator cap
Leaks pressure, causes overheating and hot coolant smell.
Leaky radiator hose connection
Coolant sprays on hot engine parts, giving a strong smell.
Water pump leak
Drips onto the engine block, creating smell without a visible puddle.
How to identify a cracked radiator
Look for thin white/green crusty lines on radiator sides.
Check for steam right after turning off the engine.
Do a pressure test — cracks show up quickly.
Shine light between condenser and radiator to spot wet patches.
Other checks
Inspect radiator cap seal.
Check hose tightness and condition.
Look under the alternator area for water pump residue.
