76000 Traffic Challans Issued in Massive Punjab Safety Sweep

The authorities in Punjab just launched a massive, two-day traffic sweep. This huge operation resulted in more than 76,000 traffic challans being issued across the province. Police started this drive with a zero-tolerance approach to tackle dangerous driver mistakes and poor road flow. They aimed to make roads much safer for everyone who commutes daily.

Big Numbers Show Strict Enforcement

This quick, tough crackdown shows that police are serious about safety. Over the two days, police impounded more than 13,000 vehicles and collected a total of Rs 71.2 million in fines. Police also filed 1,402 formal complaints, called FIRs, against major offenders. Also, 1,390 people went to jail for serious issues like reckless driving.

  • Police issued over 76,000 traffic challans in 48 hours.
  • The government collected more than Rs 71.2 million in fines.
  • Over 13,000 vehicles were taken into custody.

Key Traffic Offences Targeted

The Punjab traffic challans drive focused on common but risky violations that happen every day. First, police caught 11,700 drivers operating without valid licenses, which is a big safety issue. Also, they fined over 4,000 motorists for driving the wrong way down one-way streets. Bikers were a major target, with 12,000 riders getting tickets for not wearing a helmet.

Smog and Safety Vehicles

This operation also focused on vehicles that make our air worse. Police issued challans to over 7,200 vehicles for releasing too much smoke, a key effort to reduce the dangerous smog. For example, 421 unsafe vehicles got taken right off the roads because they posed a serious risk. Officers also penalised 3,875 individuals for using non-standard number plates and caught 1,262 people for parking illegally.

The crackdown went beyond just traffic rules. Police also filed 36 FIRs against drug users and beggars who were blocking major Punjab traffic routes. DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir said the operation will continue without stopping. He stressed that citizens must follow traffic laws consistently to help create safer roads for all.
