Pakistan Plans Electric Vehicle Policy by November End

Pakistan’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy is set for launch by the end of November, as announced by Minister for Industries and Production, Rana Tanveer Hussain. This policy aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across the country, aligning with Pakistan’s commitment to a greener future.

The EV initiative aligns with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision of promoting sustainable transportation. Minister Hussain highlighted that this policy will play a crucial role in expanding EV usage, making Pakistan a significant player in the clean energy transition within the transport sector.

Local manufacturers are already producing electric two- and three-wheelers, with some three-wheelers even reaching international markets. This local production demonstrates Pakistan’s potential to contribute to the EV sector, both domestically and globally, creating opportunities for economic growth.

To support EV development, the government has allocated $4 billion, which includes subsidies for electric two-wheelers, aiming to make them more affordable. This financial support is intended to encourage more people to switch to electric vehicles, contributing to a cleaner environment and reduced reliance on fossil fuels.

Additionally, the government will reward top-performing students across Pakistan by providing 100 electric bikes. To facilitate EV usage, 40 charging stations are planned along motorways, and 300 more along major highways, ensuring convenient access to charging for EV users nationwide.
