. Check Engine Light on Kia Sorento – Is a faulty ignition coil to blame? Question Detail:
I drive a 2016 Kia Sorento in Lahore, and the Check Engine light came on last week. The car feels underpowered and struggles during acceleration. Ive heard ignition coil problems are common in this model. Has anyone in Pakistan experienced similar issues with their Sorento? What’s the best way to diagnose whether the ignition coil is the culprit o r if it’s something else?

A Check Engine light along with poor acceleration and rough engine performance often points to ignition coil failure, and yes — this is a fairly common issue in Kia Sorento models in Pakistan, especially around the 2015–2018 variants.
Typical causes in the local environment include:
High engine temperatures in cities like Lahore o r Karachi
Humidity and dust, which affect coil insulation
Poor fuel quality, which puts extra load on the ignition system
To confirm:
Scan for codes like P0351-P0356 ignition coil specific errors.
If the problem is isolated to one cylinder, swap the coil with another to see if the error follows the coil.
If no scanner is available, you may feel the engine shaking, hesitation while accelerating, and unusually high fuel usage.
A faulty ignition coil should be replaced promptly. OEM coils are recommended, but Korean o r Thai aftermarket options are also available at auto markets in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi.
