About MG Motors

Morris Garage (MG) Motors is a former British auto manufacturing company that is now owned by China's Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) since 2007. In Pakistan, JW-ZES Group is the local partner of MG and the major stakeholder is Javed Afridi, CEO of Haier Pakistan. The brand made its debut in the Pakistani auto market with the launch of the compact SUV, MG HS, in November 2020. In 2021, MG Pakistan plans to launch two more vehicles, the MG ZS and the MG ZS EV.

History of MG Motors

MG Motors was established in 1924 as a British sports car manufacturer. Over the course of nine decades, the company has changed hands among eight major automotive groups, with the most notable names being MG Rover, Nanjing Automobile Corporation (NAC), and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC). SAIC, one of China's largest car manufacturers, is the current owner of MG Motors and produces MG cars in China for export around the world. Under Pakistan's Automotive Development Policy 2016-2020, MG Motors received greenfield status and partnered with JW-ZES Group, the owner of Haier Pakistan and Peshawer Zalmi, to enter the Pakistani market as MG cars Pakistan.

MG HS

The MG HS is a sporty SUV with a premium interior. The HS in Pakistan is equipped with a 1.5-liter GDI Turbo-Charged engine that produces 160 hp and a maximum torque of 250Nm. It features LED daytime running lights, bi-function projector headlights, rear parking sensors, front and rear aero wipers, electrically adjustable side mirrors, 18-inch diamond-cut alloy rims, and a 10-inch infotainment system.

MG ZS

The MG ZS is another SUV option available to Pakistani consumers. It is equipped with the same 1.5-liter engine as the MG HS. The ZS has an 8-inch infotainment system, 17-inch wheels, LED daytime running lights, bi-function projector headlights, rear parking sensors, front and rear aero wipers, electrically adjustable side mirrors, six airbags, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).

MG ZS EV

In 2021, MG launched the electric variant of the MG ZS SUV in Pakistan, the MG ZS EV. The vehicle is powered by a 44.5 kWh battery that drives a front-mounted electric motor that produces 140 hp and 350Nm of torque. The company claims that the ZS EV can travel up to 262 kilometers on a single charge and comes with an auto CVT transmission and features similar to its twin, the MG ZS.
