1. Why is my Kia Sorento misfiring and vibrating on idle? Could it be a faulty ignition coil?

I own a 2018 Kia Sorento in Pakistan, and recently I’ve noticed the engine misfiring, especially when idling o r at low speeds. There’s also a slight vibration that wasn’t there before. Some local mechanics suspect the ignition coil might be faulty. Is this a common issue with Kia Sorento here, and how can I confirm if the coil is the actual problem?

Answer:
Yes, a misfire and vibration at idle are classic symptoms of a failing ignition coil, especially in vehicles like the Kia Sorento. In Pakistan, due to heat, poor fuel quality, and inconsistent maintenance schedules, ignition coils often wear out earlier than expected.

To confirm the issue:

Use an OBD-II scanner to check for error codes like P0300-P0306 cylinder misfire.

Have a mechanic perform a coil test o r swap coils between cylinders to see if the misfire moves.

Inspect spark plugs too — if one coil fails, it might also damage the spark plug.

If you delay repair, it can damage the catalytic converter and lead to increased fuel consumption. If one coil has failed, its often recommended to replace all coils at once to avoid future issues, especially if your Sorento is over 5 years old.
