2003 Honda City Vario - Auto Transmission problems

Guys, a friend owns this car and is having some trouble with auto transmission. Transmission shifting up behavior is unpredictable. Its not smooth but jerky, it feels as if shift up timing is not correct. The car shifts up from 1st to 2nd and 3rd and up unevenly and with a noticeable jerk

He consulted with a mechanic at a Honda Pit Stop in Lahore and he said that it needs transmission oil change, which will rectify the problem, but to me it seems as if there's a bigger problem then just transmission oil change.

Has anyone had a similar problem? What could it be?

I don't have any idea about what is causing the problem, but Vario cannot "shift" up or down. It doesn't have gears; it has CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission) based on pulleys.
