A Series Vs Z-Gen Series....! Discussion..!
Hello!
The Z-Gen Is the Name given to ZZ and NZ series Corolla Engines Which replaces A series Engines...!
Toyota's A series engines has Cast Iron Engine Blocks & Aluminum Cylinder Head......! Came Up In Displacement from 1.3L to 1.8L......!They came up in both Carb Type and Efi Type......having Both SOHC and DOHC Versions.......The Famous 4A-GE having 20V(5Valve Per Cyl)Head also lies in A Series Category as well as 4AGZE(Supercharged) Version of 4AGE 16V is also most popular Motor of A series.....! VVT came up only in 4AGE 20V Varients..!
Some Famous A Series Engines
3A 1.5L SOHC(Corolla K70 )
4A-FE 1.6L DOHC Efi(Corolla SE)
4A-GE 1.6L DOHC( Corolla GT)
4A-GZE 1.6L DOHC( Corolla GT-Z)
Toyota's Z-Gen Includes ZZ and NZ series uses an Aluminum Engine Block & Aluminum Cylinder heads...!Which is first for Toyota.....Z-GEn's Valve Camshafts are Chain Driven....... Z-Gens are DOHC designed Came up with VVT-i and VVTL-i Later Using MPFi Fuel System......
Some Famous Z-Gen's
1NZ-FE 1.5L(Yaris/Echo/Corolla X)
3ZZ-FE 1.6L(Corolla SE)
1ZZ-FE 1.8L (Corolla Altis)
2ZZ-GE 1.8L(Celica,Corolla XRS/RunX)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Z-GEn's Chain Driving cams is also a good thing as its like maintaince free....!
well Toyota spends millions to introduce New Gen's Engine....! and its surely advanced and better than old ones....! but as A series is quiet cheap here......so one should think about it rather than Z-Gen
This Time on Z-Gen Toyota came up with 1.8L performance Motor rather than earlier 1.6L ones.....! and spec of both 1.8L 1ZZ and 2ZZ are all changed as 1ZZ is designed for Economy while 2ZZ for performance...so Bore, Stroke and Displacement is all changed like earlier in A series ...4AFE and 4AGE shares same bore and stroke size along with displacement
well Power Outputs are almost same
1.6L 3ZZ-FE is rated @ 81kW@6000RPM
Torque 150Nm@3800RPM
1.6L 4A-FE is rated @ 83kW@6000RPm
Torque 150Nm@4800Rpm...!
As we compare...Power output of 4A-FE is higher than that of 3zz-fe but 3zz can put same torque like 4AFE did on 3800RPM..........!
Comparing 1.5L 1NZ-FE with 1.5L 5A-FE
so 5AFE produces around 103hp@6000RPM while 1NZ-FE did 107Hp@6000rpm with 140Nm of torque @4200RPm while 5AFE makes 138NM of torque @ 4800RPM
7A-FE 1.8L Vs 1ZZ-FE has no match as mostly 7AFE comes in lean Burn varients producing as almost same power as 4A-FE with almost same torque.....! non Lean produces around 118hp@6000rpm and 157Nm or torque @ 4400rpms....!
4AGE can't be match as none of Z-Gen came in 1.6L Performance Motor nor 2ZZ-GE can be matched as none of 1.8L A series Performance motors occured...!
well i think the advancement is the way to go and thats what Toyota did replacing A series with Z-GEn .........!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
As i read-out..... Earlier 2ZZ-GE's are addict of breaking off "Lift Bolts" Inside engine...due to that...high output cam profile can be engaged properly as result in power loss as its VVTL-i.....!
well Toyota resolves that in 2002 and later all engines are produced with problem sorted out....!
Internals of Z-GEns are surely lighter made as advancement in designing and metal forming presist...Z-Gen's Connecting Rods are made of Fracture-Split Forged Powder Metal along with One Piece Casted Camshaft with cast Aluminum......Aluminum is what Z-Gen is based On....!
2ZZ-GE uses Forged Steel COnnecting rods as compressions are high as compare to other Z-Gens..About Block Design...so on Aluminum Designed Block.....2ZZ-GE's are still exist upto 250+hp with SC.....!
Light weight is surely an advantage for it with some drawbacks regarding traction but i think there are more of its advantages rather than drawbacks....!

i have experience with 2NZ and i think its good in 1.3. 4A-FE is one solid thing in 1.6 till now
