Can anybody please explain the difference between ABS and other braking systems and also describe how they work.

Abs is what you call antilocking brake system...as name suggests the wheels do not lock even you apply them on slippery surface.. but in conventional brake system you have to be careful while applying brakes on slippery surface cuz wheels can lock up and skid.
