A/c thermostat not working

a/c thermostat not working..i.e why engine heats up..what should be the problem?

what do u mean by coolant thermostat?? I am talking about the thermostat which is running when the a/c is on and trips frequently when the a/c compressor goes to its max....now in a couple fo days its not tripping,the cooling is some how gone down and by not tripping and continously working the thermostat is running which causes heat needle to go to its mid point which was not happening before..
