Air cons are fitted according to engine size and cabin capacity. For example Sanden has two origin platforms for automotive compressors. The SD5 series featuring 5 pistons classified as small and SD7 series featuring 7 pistons classified as large. The rest of the model are derived by slight modifications to these origin platforms. Automotive compressors capacity depends on their RPM thats why all kind of capacities can be satisfied by appropriately sizing their pulley.

This is the reason why manufactures don't need to make thousand different models of compressors. Therefore you can say auto compressors are somewhat universal. The differences are their mounting mechanisms. Most of them follow a standard four bolt or hinge mount pattern regardless of manufacturer because auto makers can fit various brand compressors with in geographic constrains. For eg: you can find Toyota corollas with Sanden as well Denso units for an identical make and model.

Your aircon performance very much depends on its internal cleanliness. Used components in Pakistan are treated roughly often lying in piles. As a standard practice they must be throughly serviced and flushed which may run expensive. Calculate you cost of new vs used units with servicing cost and it may not come out very pocket friendly.
