Some mechanics suggest loose o r weak hoses put extra stress on the radiator. Are MG HS leaks more about hose joints than the radiator itself?

Yes, in many cases leaks start from hose joints rather than the radiator itself. Weak clamps, poor fitting, o r constant vibration on rough roads put pressure on hoses. This eventually leads to cracks o r stress points that allow coolant to escape.
