ATF strainer and magnet clean?

Recently changed the ATF of my vitz which has done about 68,000 km, but the toyota service guys only replaced the oil at my insistence and did not clean the strainer and magnet.

Would that be necessary when replacing the atf at 68k km driven?

that's a good question.
i've been thinking of changing the automatic transmission fluid for my harrier, but was confused about what mileage i should get it changed at. the car has done about 30,000km's so far. and which brand of automatic transmission fluid is best?
