Automatic Gears?????

Dear All.
Can any one explain me what is the utility of D,2,L in toyota automatic transmission.

P (To park the car)
R (Reverse gear)
N (nuetral)
D (? when to choose this)
2 (? when to choose this)
L (? when to choose this)

What to choose for different conditions or driving styles.
What if O/D is off.

Select D for the car to select 1,2,3, and 4 all automatically. Normal Driving.

Select 2 if the highest you ever want is 2nd gear. The car won't shift into 3rd at all.

Select L if the the highest you ever want is 1.

If you are doing 100 and you shift into L, the computer won't downshift automatically. It will wait till you slow down enough where its safe to shift into 1st gear.

turn off O/D if you are expecting to drive fast or want your car to be in more powre.
