Automatic Transmission Problem

Dear Friends

I have a toyota corona 1.6L 1995 model automatic. Recently I have noticed that some times gear is not changing. It happens only when the car is in 1st gear (L.). If the gear changes from L, then it continue to change without problem. Most of the times automatic transmission runs perfectly.

Using your expertise, pls tell me what is wrong & what to do to sort this problem. I hope it is not so serious problem.
