BMW 316i.

BMW 316i.

Vehicle: E-36, 316i, Model 1993.

Fuel Type: High Octane 90% time.

Problem:-

--- After warm up aswell idling disorder continues.
--- Feul Mixture is rich.
--- At around 3500 RPM in first gear and at around 3000 rpm in rest of the gears it backfires and throws a heavy dump of feul from the back.
--- Accelerator response is not that gudd.
--- Engine feel is underpower.
--- Feul ecconomy isn't tht gudd as it do something lik 6-7 km/l.

I drive with a light foot and with an average speed of around 40-60 km/hr in city at moderate rpm.

When, I bought this car the acceleration was just pathetic, worse then a Fiat or Lada, Rashid Bhai dignosted tht its due to catalyst/exhaust, so I removed the catalyst and installed a free flow exhaust. After tht perfomance gets better and mileage increases to 6-7 km/l frm 4-5 km/l.
Oil filter, Fuel filter, air filter all were changed 2000 kms back.

Tariq/Toyopet suggested me to change/clean ma fuel injectors as they might be clogged. Someone else suggested me to change O2 Sensor and clean something like ICV or kinda thing like that but we ain't had a chance to talk in that much detail.

I will highly thankful to ya guys if ya help me out with it.

Thnxx..

The symptoms shows two possibilities:

1. The Coolant Temperature Sensor is malfunctioning causing the black smoke(unburnt fuel) coming out. If the engine RPM at idle always react like it is cold(RPM always goes up 1.5K) then it is possibly CTS.

2. The MAP Sensor is malfunctioning also causing the black smoke coming out. If you feel the unburnt fuel at throttles only and the engine idle is irregular then it is definitely the MAP.

Please get your car checked for the above two.
