Bus stop for Rs 6 lakh INR

The new bus stops being planned along the Eastern and Western Express Highways and the east-west linking roads under the Mumbai Urban Infrastructure Project (MUIP) would cost Rs 6 lakh each.

These futuristic bus stops are in its final stages of design and the first lot would be out in January.

Around Rs 4.5 lakh would be required to install the global positioning system (GPS) at each of the 185 bus stops planned. Passengers would know when a particular bus would pull into the bus stop.

�Passengers can track the movement of their buses,�� said Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking (BEST) committee chairperson Surendra Bagalkar.

LCD screens would announce the expected time of arrival of the bus through GPS.

BEST peeved

BEST committee members are irked with the project because of the delay (it was mooted three years ago by MUIP) and the bus stop is being constructed on a build, own transfer basis giving the contractor all advertising rights for five years.

�We do not even know if BEST will get space to display its name anywhere,�� said committee member Sunil Ganacharya.
