Can a bad water pump in my Suzuki Alto cause strange noises from the engine?

I’m hearing a squealing o r whining noise from the engine, especially when the car is running at high speeds. Could this be a sign of a bad water pump? How do I diagnose this issue?

Yes, a bad water pump can produce strange noises from the engine, such as whining o r squealing. These sounds are typically caused by the bearings inside the water pump becoming worn o r damaged. The water pump is driven by a belt, and if the bearings seize o r the pump starts to fail, it can create noise as the belt tries to turn it.

Signs of a Noisy Water Pump:

Squealing o r Whining Noise: When you hear a high-pitched squealing o r whining noise coming from the front of the engine, it could be a sign that the water pump is going bad.
Grinding Sounds: If the pumps bearings are worn, you might hear a grinding sound, indicating a need for replacement.
Solution:

Inspect the Water Pump and Belt: A mechanic can check if the water pump bearings are faulty o r if the drive belt is slipping. If the water pump is the source of the noise, it will need to be replaced.
Listen for Noise: If the noise is heard when the engine is running, but disappears when you rev the engine, the water pump could be the cause.
