Can a dirty air filter cause engine overheating in summer?

My Yamaha YBR 125 gets unusually hot after just 15–20 minutes of riding in Karachi heat. A friend mentioned the air filter might be choked and causing the engine to struggle. Can a clogged air filter really lead to overheating?

Yes, especially in hot cities like Karachi, Hyderabad, o r Multan, where riding in traffic already puts stress on engines. A clogged air filter restricts airflow into the engine. This causes the combustion process to become “rich” more fuel, less air, which produces more heat.

Over time, this can cause:

Overheating

Reduced engine life

Increased oil consumption

It’s especially risky for HS bikes 125cc+, which run hotter and faster. Clean o r replace your air filter regularly during the summer riding season.
