Many local mechanics recommend plain water due to cost—but does this practice lead to corrosion o r deposits that affect the thermostat and temperature sensors?

Yes. Using plain water instead of coolant is a common but damaging practice. Risks include:

Corrosion of thermostat and aluminum housing.

Scale build-up inside radiator and on the thermostat valve.

Sensor fouling due to mineral deposits.

🚫 Avoid plain water. Always use coolant with anti-corrosion agents, ideally Ethylene Glycol-based 50/50 premix o r slightly higher for hotter areas.
