Car is burning the air filter

Guys Due to which reason this is being happened?

My mechanic told me that some time faulty crank sensor make car (baleno in my case) to backfire n bursting/burning of air filter.
Dont know much is he right or not.

its due to backfiring.Regap the plugs though go for ngk closed gap lpg/cng plugs.Also adjust the ignition timing from the Distributor.Most probably it will be advanced
