Changing of Gear Oil
Changing of Gear Oil
Would like to have a experts opinion regarding changing gear oil (transmission oil).
Now the problem is that some people and mechanic says that gear oil is not needed to be replaced, it should just be added. (By that they mean if the level goes down a little all you need to is just add to it. No matter how old is the oil).
But I personally think gear oil is still a oil and gets lots of fraction when we start/run the engine and because of that oil has to lose its thickness or the quality.
So tell me what should I do, I have a car which has done about 44000 km on PSO gear oil. Should I change it or should I just add to it. (The level went down because of some seepage from the dipstick area).
And also is this right time to change a gear oil? As the winter is about to start, and would be pretty cold in the morning very soon.
Thanks and regards

efinitely go for oil change. mechanics are all bullshits.
and
make sure the gun they use they only add lil oil in container and rest of the oil remains in the gun.
take ur own gear oil.
and check the level urself coz if he pours more gear oil there is a harm. gear box seals can be broken. and i feel while u were levelling the previous one the one culprit added more oil than required thats why its now having seepage.
always check the oil levels, water levels, hose pipes etc to make sure you are running a trouble free car.
