Clear my doubts

IT has ben discussed a number of times that a FWD car cannot be converted into AWD setup without altering the chasis n its fabrication. But as u we know an automaker offering a car in both AWD and FWD variants can't allow two diff chasis to be used for the same make....for example lets consider a suzuki alto. In Japan AWD and FWD variants of Alto had been offered for years.......So I wud like to ask experts , Is there any possibility of converting Fwd setup to Awd setup without undergoing a serious surgery for the same make ? n if not den upto what degree do the awd and the fwd chasis of the same make vary? This question is intended purely for gaining knowledge

it depends on the setup of the original chassis. for example the 96 civic was also offered in AWD in the RTSi in some markets and for this model honda made mods to th eroiginal chassis, whereas the MK3 golf syncro i had was a completely different floorpan to the stock golf MK3.

the Lancer and Lancer evo all look about the same but the floorpan is completely different (as well as engine mount points etc).
