Comments on rewinding of digital mileage meters

There are numerous second hand vehicle imports like Vitz, belta from Japan. When u visit the market and see the running of these vehicles, it�s very low (like 10000 km - 20000km). According to one mechanic who fixes speedo meters etc, it is not possible to rewind the mileage gauge of these cars, especially the digital ones. Any experiences or comments on this? Even an expert advice.
