Owners sometimes notice a strong smell of fuel o r slight fuel loss over time. Could this be linked to a non-airtight cap seal?

Yes, a damaged o r loose fuel cap can reduce fuel efficiency and cause a noticeable fuel odor, especially near the fuel filler area. A non-airtight cap allows fuel vapors to escape, which not only leads to a fuel smell but also results in evaporative loss, slightly reducing fuel economy over time. In some cases, if the EVAP system is stressed by continuous leaks, it may also impact engine performance o r idle stability. While the smell might not enter the cabin unless there’s a severe leak, it is often noticeable near the rear left quarter of the car.
