Enerlevel- who understands Fs....

ok boys from what i know , Fs is the frequency which the sub resonates the most. suppose is a woofer has a fs:32hz , this shows tht it will resonate the most at 32hz. anything below this will give the sub a hard time.

recently , wat i got to know is tht fs is actaully the "free air resonance" of a woofer. like if we keep the woofer in a free air environment, the fs would be the highest resonating point. anything below tht and the sub might blow.

however, tht condition is applied for free air. but wat happens when we put them in a enclosure? and then the enclosure is further put inside the trunk or cabin? its just like shouting in a large hall and then shouting inside a small box.........
therefore how imp is the fs parameter for a ported or sealed setup?

this question came up after i tried kenwood 3011 today. its fs is very high at 45hz. but after putting them in a 3.9cbft @ 39hz, it still had the low end bass and played it with authority. songs like (bass i love you) which are very deep did not bukkle the sub.

i am now going to do some more testings to actually see wat the hell is this fs all about..... if anyone has any first hand knowledge about this , then plz share......

sir basically what i think fs is free air resonance... in free air the excursion of the surround will be maximum at this frequency as compared to other frequencies and it is basically a comfortable freq for a sub to play..

At this frequency, even small periodic driving forces can produce large amplitude excursions..

also kevin do note that in free air...at a sub's FS its impedance will peak out at this frequency... hence the sudden increase in heat levels (more resistance more heat) and possibly a blown sub...

also yar i thought u got 3012's ? i also have one 3011 lying around...i was also wondering this that its fs is 45...but never really played around with the sub... lemme design a box for it and try it out...
