Engine cylinder numbering...which cylinder is no.1

Most of the cars in Pakistan are having in-line 4 cylinder engines. I want to ask the experts is there any standard numbering system, like cylinder on AC belt side is no.1 or the cylinder towards clutch/gear-box side is no.1?
Or each vendor has his own numbering convention?

Are you referring to the cylinder firing order? Most I4's are 1-3-2-4

And I think the cylinders may be numbered from left to right. (in FWD cars) Not sure about this one, though.
