Gearbox Problem

hey guys, one of my friend has honda integra 1991 DA5, ZC 1.6L SOHC. we having a problem with the car. it makes a noise when u turn it or reverse it and then want to go ahead. the mechanic here in NZ said that we need to change the differential. first wat is a differential coz never heard of FWD differential in pakistan. had to change the whole gearbox there. can u plz suggest wat to do..

well Lolz..
no differentials are there in front...axles are used to drive the power to wheels...!
well it might be some axles sound..but while shifting sound means something gone bad inside gearbox...!
might be synchronizers..!
he better replaces gearbox with some 2nd hand good one from junk yard..!
axles can be replaced too but make sure axles are bad...!
