Help about Altis

And I thought I was an expert, my Altis 1.8 2005 is miss firing. It all started after repeated engine wash by my dumb driver. Sent it to mechanic and they changed the plug . It ran good for 60 km and again the same. The same spark plug is black. now the toyota mechanic says something is wrong with the head or valves and has to open up the engine head. i am terrified of that. tell me what else to look for please?

Plug wires are wet or short
Throttle position, Map sensor or Crank angle sensor can be faulty due to water. need toc heck each of them seperately. Cant be the head or valves.
