Help please!!!!!!

I have a suzuki baleno 2000 4 cylinder.My gear shift wont stay in shift,it is very loose.I had to buy a replacement part called a guide(its a plastic round piece that goes on the stick of the shifter)because the other one wore out.My problem is how do I remove the old one to put in the new piece,it won't come out?
