Higher ratio gears for Corolla

Higher ratio gears for Corolla

As salaam o aliakum,

This is my first post at this forum and I'm looking foward to your cooperation / valuable suggestions.

I've got a Corolla GLi 1.3L ,model 2006. The stock gear ratios are very high and consequently the car makes a lot of noise even at high gears (3,000 + rpm at 100km/hr even in 5th gear).

Was wondering if using a different gear box, say for instance from Altis 1.8, would do any good. This would obviusly work only if the Altis has higher gear ratios. Alternately, the individual gears in the transmission can also be changed. The latter option being more cumbersome (i think) and may not work that well.

Would highly appreciate if you can help / guide me in resolve this issue.

if you want longer gears it'd be easiest to it an autobox from a rolla since the ratios are longer and they are available. it shouldn't be too hard to get the auto to work in your car, but it'd make it ALOT slower in terms of acceleration but the noise will decrease for sure.
