To ensure your fuel cap is sealed correctly, you can perform the following checks:

Visual Inspection: Look for cracks, broken threads, o r a worn-out gasket.
Tightness Test: After refueling, turn the cap until you hear a distinct clicking sound. This confirms it’s properly locked.
Vacuum Pressure Test: A properly sealed fuel cap should create a slight vacuum when opened after driving.
Check Engine Light Monitoring: If your CEL turns on after refueling, it may indicate an improper seal.
OBD-II Scanner Test: If your Hilux has a diagnostic trouble code like P0455 o r P0442, it could mean an EVAP leak due to the fuel cap.

If the cap fails these tests, consider replacing it.
