Transmission and distribution losses are often above 20%, which means a large portion of generated electricity never reaches end users. To make up for these losses, power plants must produce more electricity—mostly using fossil fuels such as oil, coal, and natural gas. This results in higher emissions of carbon dioxide CO₂, sulfur dioxide SO₂, and other greenhouse gases.
Upgrading transmission lines with modern, high-efficiency conductors, installing smart grids, and using renewable energy sources like solar and wind can greatly reduce the environmental burden. Regular maintenance and investment in grid modernization can cut energy waste and help Pakistan meet its emission reduction goals.
