Improving Overall Look of the Car

I own a Honda Civic 1996 Automatic car. Although the car's body is good but there are few scratches and small dents in the body. The mechanic tells me that if I dent and paint the vehicle, neven original from the Honda Company, it will show and the resale will graph down. Why is it so and is there any other way of getting rid of it?
Note: a zero compound treatment did not help much.

dont sell ther is only Rs3000 burden
go for new wind screen approx 2200RS
and digout only dents but not do paints

this wud not the gr8 deal to sell a car for few small probs.
