even just replacing an old one will give you some major improvements. however I think the ones you are talking about are performance ones for US model cars and probably are better than a new OEM ones which are mass produced and not as acurate.

in your case you'll be better off just cleaning yours (very very gently)

BTW MB has been using these type of sensors since the late 80's.
