Kia Sorento steering feels hard o r stiff when turning – is this a power steering problem?

My 2017 Kia Sorento driven mostly in Lahore city traffic has started to develop stiff o r hard steering, especially noticeable when the car is cold o r when turning at low speeds. It used to be smooth before. I checked the power steering fluid, and it seems fine. Some say it might be the electric power steering motor o r column sensor, which are expensive to repair. Is this a common issue with Sorento in Pakistan? What should I check before going for costly repairs?
