Low Fuel Millage of Toyota Prius

Low Fuel Millage of Toyota Prius

Hi,

I recently bought a 2010 Toyota Prius Gen 3 with over 140k km on it. The odometer has been reversed, so please don’t ask how much I paid for it—Im not happy about it.

I’m having trouble with fuel efficiency the car is only getting about 11 km/l. It also doesn’t seem to have much power when I push the throttle.

I’ve already changed the EGR, cleaned the fuel injectors, checked the spark plugs, cleaned the throttle, and made sure the battery is fine.

The previous owner used 10w40 oil, but I’ve been advised that the car should use 0w20 o r 5w30. A mechanic I trust said the engine might be in poor condition and that 10w40 is probably a sign that the engine isn’t in great shape.

I’m really upset and feel like I’ve been scammed. What should I do next?

Hey, just a heads-up: a 2010 model is pretty much at the end of its original life. It’s going to start costing you more and more in repairs soon. Hybrid vehicles usually have a lifespan of about 10 years from when they’re first sold. In our country, parts for Japanese hybrids mostly come from scrapyards, and theyre often taken from cars that were already scrapped somewhere else in the world.
