M60 engine service light and uneven idle

M60 engine service light and uneven idle

two days back i started the m60 engine and engine service light came on .

m60 still has albout 2mm additional engine oil on dipstick though i took out lot of engine oil with oil suction pump through dipstick nozzel. it was almost 1cm higher on dipstick when i bought it and asked for oil change. but i coundnt chk oil before driving. the valve cover gasket also leaked as oil was seen ard enine oil when i had plastic engine covered removed.

so what happened past 2 days back is i started car and engine idle was uneven and then service light flashed in dash cluster and now it stays on even when engine is warm

i thought, it either a dead spark plug or plugs or some exhaust O2 sensor came off because engine was idling pretty werid going up and down 900 to 400 rpm. at -6C degree cold temp sending vibration through out the exhaust pipes.

its a v8 48valve, 68hp/litre motor.

MAF cleaning donest show engine service light????
also any leaks in vaccumms dont show engine check

so it has to be a sensor out of its place.

i fixed the problem. first i went to local mechanic , he said to come back in morning and he will plug in OBD2 and get the error. and he will charge anywhere from $55 to $75.
i thought to myself that's a lot of money.

so i came back at home. and disconnected car battery -ive terminal , it looked easlier to open - (just like the old days , reseting 20v ecu). walked ard the lot and had a cigrarette. then connect back terminal, put back tools , close trunk , started car and engine service ligt went off.

according to my assumption , a spark plug probably misfired and one of sensor ( i dont know which one) sensed uneven engine idle and send signal to ecu to turn on service light. so whenever engine was running or was off, the default reading of ecu would turn on engine chk light.

after disconnecting battery, i put ecu to sleep for 5 minutes and connected battery to wake it up and read new readings from all sensors, as car was warm already, it started smooth and kept the service engine soon light off.

this is one of the basic tests which solves the problem if engine isnt getting any electrical problems continuosly through malfunctioning sensors.

misfiring sparkplug is a electrical problem in E60 engine.

yes or no? any ideas?
