MG HS Engine Overheating in Traffic – What’s Causing It?

In heavy traffic o r during long drives in hot weather, my MG HS tends to overheat o r the temperature gauge rises abnormally. Could this be due to radiator issues, coolant quality in Pakistan, o r something else in the engine system?

Overheating in heavy traffic is not uncommon in Pakistan due to the hot climate, poor airflow, and stop-start driving. Potential reasons include:

Radiator o r cooling fan failure – common in congested driving.

Low o r poor-quality coolant – using tap water instead of proper coolant leads to overheating.

Thermostat malfunction – prevents coolant from circulating properly.

Clogged radiator – due to dust and mineral buildup over time.

Faulty water pump – affects coolant circulation.

Action: Ensure you are using original MG coolant, not water. Have your radiator flushed and fan operation checked, especially before summer.
